Rachael and Kevin * Portland Engagement Photography

Rachael and Kevin are relatively new to Portland so when we started talking about engagement photos they asked if I’d throw out a few location suggestions. They were quite taken with the idea of shooting at Powell’s Bookstore and the Broadway Bridge. I’ve shot in both locations a number of times now, and although Powell’s is a ridiculously cool bookstore it for the most part honestly has pretty atrocious lighting. But if you know where to look there are a few sweet spots in the building where the windows cast the most beautifully soft light on the aisles that is great for portraits. As for the Broadway Bridge, it has always been one of my favorite places to shoot. It not only has excellent lines and shapes to play with but at sunset it looks absolutely gorgeous.

So far Rachael and Kevin’s engagement session is one of my favorites this year, especially because both of them were a joy to work with. In general, I had to give them very little direction because they acted so naturally and comfortably in front of the camera, which always makes my job a little bit easier. They were clearly very much in love. I’m really looking forward to taking more photos of them in August during their wedding at the Seattle Tennis Club.
