I’ve known Crystal Humble Lary for a bunch of years, after we were introduced by a mutual friend. She’s a livewire, energetic, funny, thoughtful, and creative. I used to run in to her regularly at the climbing gym where she worked, and more recently at Trader Joe’s.
We recently started talking about a photo shoot she wanted to do, showcasing her amazing handmade jewelry. Now, a lot of women (and men) make handmade jewelry, and it comes in a wide variety of shapes and qualities. But when I saw Crystal’s combinations of vintage ephemera with moths, feathers, watch gears, and pen nibs, I was blown away. (You can view her pieces on her website, www.humblebugjewelry.com.) We talked over a shoot idea she had, and she decided to hire me for it.
We spent a delightful afternoon with a bunch of models, and Crystal’s pet dove, photographing in an old church building in SE Portland (most of it spend in the belfry!). And the results are almost as beautiful as Crystal’s jewelry….
Be sure to check out her jewelry on her website, and on her FaceBook page. This girl has style.
I love photographing with other creative people, and this was no exception. You can always see more of our creative fashion and commercial photography work, on our Portland photography website!
Okay alright! The blur effect in the second photo is good. You really focused on the necklace. That’s what I love about photographers, they are really excellent when it comes to the focusing to the object!
