Among the many reasons I love wedding photography is that I get to travel a lot, whether it be to a church in Portland, a golf course in Seattle, a beach in California or some far-flung location. But sometimes the wedding venues closest to home can be the most special.
In the case of Erin and Clark, they had their wedding at Clark’s parents’ house in the rural outskirts of Forest Grove. Located on a hill situated above wheat fields and a Christmas tree farm, their house provided a very intimate, meaningful place to be married. While it’s certainly a lot of work setting your home up for a ceremony and reception, there’s something special to be said for inviting all of your closest friends and family over for such an important day.
The ceremony itself was located in a shady alcove of trees where guests sat on hay bails and watched the bride and groom and their bridal party walk up a bark dust path lined with colorful flowers soaking in mason jars. Afterward, the reception was hosted in the driveway just below under a big white tent decorated with vintage typewriters, cameras, books, couches and signs.
All of the decorations were absolutely fabulous, but I’d have to say the standout element of the wedding, aside from the bride and groom themselves, were the comic book character bowties worn by Clark and his groomsmen. When I saw those I knew that this wedding was going to be a lot of fun.
